Torah Thoughts Journal

Torah Portions are reading sections from the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) that are read and studied each week. This cycle ensures that the Torah is read each year. We have combined the weekly Torah Portions with weekly readings from the Gospels in Chronological order, so that all four Gospels can be read each year in connection with the Torah Portions. The division of the Torah into weekly portions dates to ancient times. Each portion is assigned a specific name, usually taken from the first significant word or phrase in the text. There are 54 portions in total, covering the books of Genesis (B’reisheet), Exodus (Shemot), Leviticus (Vayikra), Numbers (Bamidbar), and Deuteronomy (Devarim). Studying the Torah Portions allows believers to connect with the rhythms of Scripture each week. By studying the Torah, Christians can uncover hidden treasures in God’s Word, see connections with the New Testament, and grow deeper in our walk with the LORD.
