New Jerusalem

The New Temple, prophetic hope, Yeshua's death and resurrection, apostolic mission, and future restoration.">Jerusalem is the eschatological city portrayed in Revelation as descending from heaven after the final defeat of death and evil.

The principal passages are:
• Revelation 21
• Revelation 22
John sees:
"the holy city, new Temple, prophetic hope, Yeshua's death and resurrection, apostolic mission, and future restoration.">Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God."

An important detail is that the city comes down from heaven.
The final vision is not humanity permanently escaping earth for heaven but heaven and earth being reunited under God's presence.

The city contains numerous symbols connected with Israel:
• twelve gates
• names of the twelve tribes
• twelve foundations
• names of the twelve apostles
The imagery joins Israel's covenant story with Messiah's apostolic people.

The central promise is:
"The dwelling place of God is with man."
There is no Temple building in the city because God and the Lamb are its Temple.

Revelation 22 includes:
• river of life
• tree of life
• removal of curse
• divine presence
The Bible's conclusion therefore deliberately returns to themes introduced in Genesis.
